Research Interest

    Dr. Shome is currently attached to some of the best multi-specialty hospitals in Mumbai, including Breach Candy Hospital (Breach Candy, Mumbai, India), Saifee Hospital (Girgaon, Mumbai, India), Apollo Spectra Hospital (Chembur, Mumbai, India), and S L Raheja Fortis Hospital (Bandra-Mahim, Mumbai, India). He is the head of the Facial Plastic Surgery department at Apollo Spectra Hospital, Chembur, Mumbai. Dr. Shome has been appointed as the First ever Professor of Facial Plastic Surgery by the Apollo hospital group.

    Dr Shome started the department & was the co-founder of The Esthetic Clinics at Apollo Health City, Hyderabad, India and had been the Head of the Department of Facial Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery there from 2009-2011.

    Dr. Shome has more than 50 research papers written in top peer reviewed international publications and two US patents to his credit. 

     

     

    Dr. Debraj Shome was honoured with the extremely eminent Davies Foundation Grant Award by the Royal College of Surgeons, Glasgow, United Kingdom in 2010. This Grant Award is bestowed on to only two outstanding physicians (best / leading doctors) from all over the world who have performed splendid work in cancer research and therapy, played a part in conducting life-saving research and have changed the entire pattern of cancer therapy in the world. This Grant Award established through the William and Elizabeth Davies Charitable Foundation awards an extremely prestigious Grant Award to assist a range of activities equipped for improving the management of cancer. Dr. Debraj Shome was the FIRST recipient from Asia and the youngest globally to receive this award.

    Dr. Shome was also awarded with the Colonel Rangachari award, the highest award for clinical research, by the All India Ophthalmological Society in 2010.

    In 2017, Dr. Shome received a patent from the United States of America, for inventing a hair growth formulation, the QR 678 hair growth factor formulation. The same has shown phenomenal results in clinical trials for natural hair growth and has received FDA approval by multiple countries, including India (http://www.qr678.in).

    Other impacts of the scientific contributions of Dr. Debraj Shome:

    • Significant advances in hair growth therapy
    • Significant changes in the treatment of Retinoblastoma and other neural cancers, globally.
    • Significant understanding in the treatment of hair loss and alopecia globally.
    • Choosing not to patent the Retinoblastoma (RB) drug molecules, was a significant act of philanthropy by Dr. Shome, allowing these drug inventions to be allowed cheap to poor patients in India, needing drugs for RB.
